40.0 Sleepy Hours, Boys, Love & Fun

We had our physics class on Sundays. When it comes to Sunday, my energy was over for the entire week. So, most of the time, it was very difficult to travel there even. Sometimes I have fallen sleep in the class because of this reason. It happened unintentionally and, I could not control it though I wanted. If there were no friends, I have fallen asleep and, finally attending that class also useless.

One day when I was writing in the book, I heard someone laugh as a dream. So, I woke up and, looked around without turning my head. Oh my god... I wrote the question and, I thought the teacher was explaining the answer. Though I was sleeping, I thought that why he was reading too fast. Lol... After that, a few paper rockets came towards my head and, it was a shame for me. When I was going out after finishing the class, one boy said that 'You are not waking up even after hitting a rocket...Lol...

In that exam era, I went to a night class and, those days I stayed in the boarding place. There was a walking distance. That class was a group class, and there were about eight students. It started at four o'clock and ended at eight o'clock. There were a few students who came from different locations and, that's why the teacher started the class at four o'clock.

That class held near our school and, I had to pass the school first to go there. It was a rainy day and, I left the boarding place to go to the class. Suddenly, a boy who also was going to that class came under my umbrella. He said that he could not bring the umbrella. He came in front of our school and, I was shocked for a moment as we had certain disciplinary rules. When we were wearing the school uniform, we could not share our umbrella with a boy. He asked 'Is that fine with you? I did not reply to him back though I did not like to breach our school rules. But I could not ask him to go out as well because of the rainy climate️. So, I went with him a few miles.

After a few minutes, he said that 'I'm not coming to trouble you if I don't have books in my hand. Those are getting wet. That's why I came. I felt very angry with him. Same time I saw our class teacher at the bus halt and, she did not look at me. So, I asked him to go out by taking the books in his hand. I would not ask him to go out if he did not have that big head. When I was going to the class, he looked like a wet bird. He did not look at me even and, he wiped his head using his handkerchief. At that time, others were kidding and laughing at him.

After that incident, he did not look at me at all and, I think he got angry with me. I did not go to school on the following day as my class teacher was on the bus halt when this was happening. So, once I went to school, she smiled and asked 'Are you not well because of the rain? According to the way she smiled, I realized that she noticed the incident made by that idiot. Same time I thought that she would see the entire thing. Otherwise, I would be in the principal’s office on that day.

Learning in a tuition class was a different experience for some students who did not study in mixed schools. Those who have studied in a boys' or girls' school had to mix up in the tuition class. It was a pleasure for most of them. Though I studied in a convent at that time, the rest of the other schools I studied were mixed schools. So, it did not bring me a different exposure. Those days, most such students started love affairs. In some cases, there were fights as well to protect their love affairs. Some boys tried for one girl and, such situations made a crisis among them.

Some boys also faced the same situation when several girls were trying to get their attention. We also had a pretty friend among us and, most of the boys followed her for her love. Sometimes it was a headache for her. Some boys waited and followed her when she was going somewhere. As we were her friends, we also had to give her details and convey their messages with our friends. So, though they did not follow us, we also had to share the details carefully and, we did it as per our friend's instructions.

So, it was a punishment for a few friends including me. Sometimes I told whatever came to my mind. However, there was one situation where we communicated different details for the same question they asked. So, we all decided to get the exact answers from our pretty friend to answer the questions of her followers. One day one of our friends saw that one boy was waiting for my friend to convey a message and, get some details.

However, that friend could not get the instructions from our beauty queen on that day and, she was clueless. So, what she did was, she ran away in another route to avoid that boy. However, she could not close the eyes of that boy and, he also ran and followed her. She could not run a long way and, she had fallen on the road. The funniest thing was, that boy was the one who helped her to stand up. The other people also came to support her. So, he did not ask anything from her. After that incident, he did not ask anything from her. Though she got rid of that problem, he got the details from us as usual and, we communicated the details as per the instructions of our beauty queen.

In the tuition classes, we met friends from different nationalities as well. It was a good experience we all had and, some of them are still good friends. Those friendships have a strong bond with each other like siblings. I think it's a bit difficult to find out honest friends when you are an adult. Just do a small analysis and see who are your actual friends. Then you can see still the remaining best gang is coming from your childhood or school days.

So, I hope we can build up a strong relationship among different nationalities if we have schools without religion-wise or gender-wise differentiation. One good example is one of our father's friend who is coming from another nationality. He is one best friend from my father's childhood.

He was the one who supported my father when he was not well. In one year, there was a flood in our area and, our house also severely damaged because of that situation. At that time, he brought food for us. He swam and brought it to us. It was not an easy task to swim in that cold water as he was not a young man to struggle with the water. My father said that the job he did won't do with his own brother even in that situation. We were very emotional at that time. I think we can build up such a strong friendship among the different nationalities via the concept of a mixed school which can bring different people under one roof.

Otherwise, we would see them as aliens, once we have to move with each other as adults.

33.0 The Entire World Is Full Of Crazy Nuts & You Can Find Out Most Of Them In A Bus

One day, an uncle sat in a front seat and, he looked a few times back. Later on, he gave his phone and SIM card to me and, asked me to put that SIM into his phone. By looking at his face and behavior, I understood that he drunk a lot.

So, I politely said that I don’t know how to do that and, it made him angry. Then he murmured something and, blamed me. He said that 'Always wires are in the ears but do not know how to do this simple task. That was the only thing I could hear even though he murmured something else.

This incident also a different one and that day I was coming back after finishing a tuition class. At that time, I did not have changes. So, I gave a five hundred Rupees note to the bus conductor and, he had to return about four hundred Rupees as the balance.

At that time he did not give me the balance by asking me to remind it when getting down from the bus. I was in the last seat in that bus and, there were few people in that row. After a while, one uncle talked to the conductor and asked my balance. Then the conductor said “Sure. I will give it to her”. A little bit later, that uncle asked the balance again and, it made conductor angry. Even though I did not ask, he blamed me and, said “I’m not taking your money and get down. I will give to you. You don’t need to worry.” Then that uncle replied back and, there was a small argument among them. Once it finished, I said “uncle, please don’t ask balance from him. I will ask when I get down from the bus”. Then I acted like sleep by following up on my one safety method.

Sometimes, I got late to come home from the office and, I had to travel at the night around nine p.m. So, it was a big headache for my parents and, they asked me to stop this several times. However, for some reason, I could not obey them due to workload or meetings I had in the evenings at the office.

If I had to leave the office a bit early without attending for those, then there was another problem at the office even though it resolved my parents’ issue. So, either my parents or seniors in the workplace blamed me due to this situation. Sometimes, I came home in the very early morning around four or clock by a cab and, went back to the office again around ten a.m. once I worked for a European project. I had to resolve some issues with them in their time zone. So, my parents also used to wake up and, wait for me even though I asked them to sleep. These were the main reasons for these night or midnight journeys.

This incident happened when I was coming home around nine p.m. It was a Friday and, the buses were crowded. So, I had to take two buses. Time was around nine-thirty p.m. when  I was waiting for the next bus. There were a few men in the bus stand and, there were no ladies. At that time, most of the buses were already gone and, I could not get into any buses due to the crowd. You know that I’m not going when there is a big crowd…

So, I asked my father to come there. But I knew that it was about thirty minutes' journey though I asked him to pick me. Therefore I was so scared to wait for him with those few people. So, I went to one shop and did some window shopping. But at that time, they were closing down their shop. So, I had to tell my concern to them and, asked to stay there a little longer. Luckily, they agreed to wait for my father and, it was a big relief for me. As I knew that my father also scared and, come in a rush, I said that “No hurry. You come safely and slowly”. But it made him angrier and more stressed. Once my father came, I thanked very much to the staff of that shop and came home. Once I came home, I saw that my mother was crying by murmuring something and, my sister was blaming me like a non-stop song. Father did not speak to me and, he was very silent due to anger. Ohh shit…! Only our doggy welcomed me as usual.

One day, only a few men left on the bus with me when I was coming home on such a night journey. At that time there were about ten kilometers to our home. So, this made me scared a lot by remembering a rape incident happened inside the bus and that was happening even though that girl's boyfriend was there. He could not control those men as a film. So, this girl raped by a few men. There were similar rape cases inside the buses in our country as well. At that time, I remembered all these stories and, it increased my fear a lot. I was confused more by looking back.

The guy who had a weird look smiled at me and, it was an abnormal smile. Sometimes, I saw his smile suspiciously because of the fear I had at that time. Perhaps he understood that I was afraid. Finally, I reached my destination and, I rang the bell to get down from the bus. Then the driver turned back and looked at me. He also smiled weirdly and said something to the conductor. For a few seconds, I was thinking that, what should I do, if he did not stop the bus. If he did not stop, I thought to jump from the bus to live or die at that time.

This incident happened when I was going to Colombo for my higher studies. I got onto the bus at five or clocks in the morning. On that day, I had an examination as well. But my friend did not come due to a funeral at her home. We had to bring the identity card as a compulsory thing for the examination.

After I got onto the bus, I thought that I did not bring my ID and I suddenly checked it in my bag. Ohh Shit! Yes. It’s not there. So, I got down from the next town to go back home to bring it. Once I got down from the bus only, I realized the silly thing I have ever done. Even though a few people got down with me, none of them left in the bus halt and, all of them went to different places. Then I left there alone and, the darkness and, a silent made me scared. I waited for a few minutes, but there were no buses to go back home.

So, I wanted to run and hide somewhere. It was that much scary moment for me. At that time, I did not have a mobile phone, and I could not tell my father to come. I felt helpless and meantime, I heard some rubbish words of a few people. I heard them only and, I could not see them in the darkness. It increased my fear a lot and, I thought about my next actions if they come to me. When I was thinking about these things, a van stopped and, there were about ten young men in that van. Then the driver said “Hey sister, where are you going? We can drop you”. Then I said that I was waiting for my father. I thought that they were some drunk men by looking at their faces and the way they talked. So, I could not wait for another time and, I wanted to get into any bus to go to Colombo or home.

It was my fault and, I blamed myself. There were no buses in any root and, I waited for another few minutes in that horrible environment. Shortly, several people came to that bus halt and, then only I was conscious with normal conditions. But I could not forget the series of incidents that happened within a few minutes.

Later on, I blamed myself for the drama I played, once I saw my identity card in the bag. It was there in the same pocket, which I used to keep it. I don’t know what happened actually and why I could not see it early? However, I could not concentrate on the exam as my mind was a mess. Marks were very low for that subject. I did not tell this to my parents or sister except my friends. They also blamed me for the foolish thing I had done. I also accepted my mistake and, I promised myself not to do the same fault again under any emergency situation. Actually, if I could think twice and arrange my exam stuff on the last night well, I would not face this incident.

This incident also happened in the early morning and, at that time also I was going to Colombo for my higher studies, I think. So, I got into an intercity bus, I could not see any people except the driver and conductor. Suddenly I said “Nobody there inside the bus” and, it happened unintentionally

It made conductor laugh and, he said ‘No, there are two in the last seat.’ Then I could see a boy. But I could not see anyone elseHowever, I went inside the bus and saw a girl with himThey did not behave well, as there was no anyone. After a few minutes, a few people got onto the bus. The conductor looked at me and, said 'See. People are coming. It was fun for him and, he repeated it over and over once people got onto the bus. He laughed by looking at me and, then others looked at me by keeping a big question mark in their eyes. Once I told this to my friends, it was a good topic for them for a couple of days.

There is another story which same as this one. I was sitting on that day. After a few miles, a school crowd got on to the bus. So, some of them gave their books and bags me to keep. After a few minutes, one girl thanked and took back her bag from me.

Then the person who sat beside me got down and, one schoolboy sat in that seat. At that time, he did not have any books or a bag. I think, he went about five to six kilometers without keeping any stuff. For all the time those school crowd talked loudly and laughed like nothing. I was carrying those goods and thinking about the old good school days I had. After a few miles that boy got up and said 'Hey, sister, can you give my books back?. I was wondered and ashamed. Others laughed a lot.

These are some main memories that came to mind. Even though some incidents made me laugh now also, I think, I could avoid some silly situations if I could think twice.

25.0 Tuition Class! A Place To Study, Have Fun & Grow Your Community

As I mentioned in the first part of the tuition class, the worst bad habit I had was getting late. There was at least a five-minute delay. So, sometimes I missed my friends as I could not find out where they have seated in the class. In such a situation, I went to whatever free space available and sat there.

One day, I could not find out my friends and, the entire whole was crowded with many students. I did not take more than one minute to find out a suitable place to sit as it made others laugh. So, I did not need to get their attention and, I sat in any free space available. On that day also I looked at the class by giving a quick look. At that time, I saw a free space and, no one was there in the entire area.

I was so happy about my finding. But once I sat there, I got to know that there was dust on the seat and desk. But I did not care much and, kept my whole books there. When I was moving my books, I saw that there was a thin dust layer in my books and, I thought to wipe them in the lunch break. However, our class teacher went out for a few minutes by asking us to resolve a question. At that time, I thought to wipe the dust using a facial tissue I had at that time. Oh my god... The entire area had filled with many deep dust layers. Some layers kept as mud, and I think this could not manage with facial tissues. As I tried to remove, the pasted dust also came out and, I sneezed continuously. Once I looked at others in the class, I saw that they were looking at me. It was fun for them.

The tuition classes located in different areas of the city. We had to go to some sub-streets which were not in the main town. So, there were no vehicles on some streets and, most of the people used those as short cuts. So, those areas were not crowded. Because of this reason, most of the couples used those streets to spend some time with their girl/boyfriend

There was such one lane and, 'Love lane' was its name. Apart from the couples, there were a few guys who had a mental illness as well. They wanted to show their naked bodies to the girls who were using that street. Some of our friends also saw these people. So they got scared and returned home without going to the classes. I also used that street to go to classes, but I did not face such an incident. One day I saw a guy who just stood in the road doing nothing. It's like he was waiting for someone. He did not carry any bag and, had a weird jobless look. He was staring at me till I passed him. I also did not care about him, but I could not forget his appearance and, the look he gave. So, once I went to the class, I told about this guy. My friends said that it was him, according to the appearance I explained. So, all of our gang wanted to use the same street to see him, though I asked them to use another route. One of our friends planned to do certain things as well if they could meet him. She wanted to bring a knife and, attack him. It made all of us laugh and, we said that he would take the knife from you and, hit you back. So, we asked her to not to give a knife to him.

Some of our tuition class teachers were strict as our school teachers. They held good discipline in their classes, and they wanted to give more apart from the subject they taught. So, they added lessons for our lives and, still, I could rewind their speeches. There was such one teacher for 'Physics and, I think he was the strictest tuition teacher I ever had.

During his session, nobody could talk and, the class should be silent like nothing. He said that if someone needs to talk, he or she can take his mike and teach. Or else he asked them to go out as a punishment. Sometimes, he asked some questions and, pointed out someone for the answer. He did all of those things to keep the attention of the lessons he taught. So, most of the students maintained their maximum discipline in his class.

One day, as usual, I could not find out my friends and, I sat in a free space available. There was a boy beside me and, I did not know him. He wore spectacles and, had a professor look. We just smiled at each other. So, our class teacher gave a maths question and asked us to resolve it. After a few minutes, I saw that guy did it quickly. So, he waited till I finished and, he asked whether I need support or not as well. Once I finished, he wanted to discuss the solution, though I did not need to listen to him. At that time, the teacher also ready to discuss the answer with the entire class.

So, now he is explaining to me the answer and, our teacher also started the same. I was so scared of the teacher's reaction. As the class was so silent except these two lectures, the teacher could hear his explanation, and he looked at us. He looked at us for another few minutes, but our professor did not care about the teacher. I think he was sick and I felt angry with him. The teacher said that he did not want to remind the ground rules again and again. As usual, he said that only the teacher can speak when the lesson is going on. But that idiot did not listen.

Then I asked him to stop his explanation and, listen to our teacher. Again, the teacher said ‘I may have to ask you two to go out if you did not stop talking. Then only that idiot stopped his lesson and, he asked 'you got my explanation, right? At that time, I wanted to kill him. One day, that teacher asked one boy to come to the front for a speech. Though it was not a punishment, we could see his shivering legs. So that was the situation and, I think that boy was a nut case. Otherwise, nobody won’t behave like this. So, as soon as he gave our lunch break, I moved to another place.

23.0 The Support Of Tuition Classes For Education Journey

There are many memories of tuition classes as well. I went to my first tuition class when I was studying in grade ten. That class focused on our ordinary level examination. Those days I loved to go to classes and, it was a place to meet many friends. Some of our friends studied in different schools. But we went for the same tuition classes. Therefore, it was a pleasure for all of us. However, we had to separate again when we were doing the advanced level examination as we selected different subject streams.

Some of our friends who studied with us went to some other schools for the advanced level examination. I also went to another school. Therefore, we missed our gang in these classes. On top of those things, we had an exam pressure as it was a highly competitive exam. Though we had four subjects for the advanced level exam, we had tuition classes for the whole week when we closer to the examination.

However, I wanted to tell you that I could go to higher grades for all of my school examinations because of the education I had in the tuition classes. Our studies limited in the school because of the number of hours we studied. However, I should say that the foundation for my studies placed in the school and, I should offer my gratitude for the schools. Tuition classes always helped me to resolve the doubts I had and, improve the things I learned in school. In the tuition class, I could go through the same lessons again and, I think that was the reason for me to grasp the things in the tuition classes.

The main problem that I had was the type of dress when I was going to these classes. My parents asked me to wear the white school uniform without the tie for these tuition classes as well. So, when my friends were wearing colorful and fashionable outfits, I wore my school uniform for a couple of months. It was an odd dress for my friends and others. It made me also uncomfortable as they asked the reason for wearing the school uniform. My father always said that it is the best dress as there is no pageant to show fashions. But from time to time I told them that I also wanted to wear some other dresses as my friends did. I convinced them that it is a shame for me to wear a school uniform as no one wore it for tuition classes. Finally, they gave their permission for me to wear some other dresses for the tuition classes. It was a great relief for me and, my friends also happy about my parent's decision.

There were about a hundred to two hundred students in one tuition class and, it held in a big hall. So, finding out a space to sit was the biggest challenge we had in those days. The board was not visible when we had to sit in the last rows. Therefore, everyone tried to sit in the front and mid rows. It was not an easy task to find out a suitable place.

There was no proper procedure or management to allocate seats, and sometimes there were fights for space as well. However, I did not like this horrible job anymore. I did not want to move to crowded places and, I could not breathe well. I got this feeling at first when I was going on a crowded bus. After that, I did not want to get that experience again. You can find out more details in my bus blog post. As it was not an easy thing, we all decided to share the jobs among ourselves. One day, I went to find out the place and, my friends did the job other days. As I could not handle this, every time all of us had to sit in the back rows. Even I could not book a mid-row. Though I tried to do my maximum, I gradually dragged back when I felt uncomfortable in that crowd. After that, my other friends did that job and, I never went to find out a place. So, once they found a place to sit, I came to the class peacefully and, it made them angry sometimes. Lol...

Meantime, I went to an English class and, it was a night group class. Several friends who stayed close to my home went to this English class. This class held in one of my friends’ homes and it was a 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. class. There were six friends in the class. Once it finished, I came back home with a teacher and two other friends. As it was our first night class, all of us loved that night journey. There was a walking distance and, the boy who came with us went to his home first. As all of us were children, it was a scary walk even it's fun for us. But we really liked it. So, when that boy was going to his home, sometimes the front door has closed. At that time, he yelled his mother 'Mummmm, open the door quickly'. Those days, we loved to see that closed door as it was fun to see his scary actions. If it's closed, he asked us to wait till they open the door. Normally he said 'you all wait for me' and ran away. The rest of the distance I came with my teacher and friend. We two came like needle and thread. We held our hands tightly. So, our teacher always said that 'I think your younger sister does not behave like this.

Someday I was lazy and, did not want to go to this class after school. So, I stayed a few minutes at school and, then came home to avoid the class. I thought that I can stay at home. But it was the other way and, my mother asked me to go even though it was already started. So, it gave me many disadvantages finally. As soon as I came home, I went to the class alone as my friend already gone. So, it was a tiring day than the other days.

One day, we heard a sound like 'Sara Sara, when we were returning to the home and, I quickly turned my torch to that side without thinking twice. It was not the main road and, there were no lights on that road. I think he was a drunk man and, at that time, he was peeing there. All of a sudden, he stopped what he was doing, and he was ready to run. However, it consumed two, three blood liters of our teacher, though it made us laugh.

Later on, a retired teacher came to our home for an English class. Only me and my sister participated in this class. He was very old and had a weak look. Therefore, our parents respected him as their father. My mother did not forget to serve a homemade snack for evening tea, and he appreciated it every time.

He had only one son and, we got to know that he did not care about him much. One day he came to the class with a head bandage and, he said that he slipped in the bathroom. Later on, we got to know that it's done by his son. One day, he brought a new big bag and said that he is going on a trip with his son. He happily talked about his journey on the following day. He promised to bring something for us as well. However, he could not make it and, he said that his son arranged some other person instead of him. That was his situation and, he had to work in his later stage as well because of this problem. In point of our view, it was the most boring class we ever had. But we did not like to stop it because of these reasons. Our parents also forced us to participate in this class. Most of the day, only I was there as my sister escaped it, telling her some sort of sickness. Some days she had a headache and, some days she was suffering from stomachache. Some days she cried and said that she could not go to the class. So, somehow, I had to participate as we could not send him back.

Most of the day, he brought a bottle covered by a bag and, he said that it's his medicated bottle. He had an odd smile when he was saying that to us. Always he kept it under our table. So, we two were waiting for a good time to check this and, one day we checked it once he went to the bathroom. Oh damn... It was an arrack bottle. We could not stop our laugh

This class was a night class and, it scheduled till 7.30 p.m. Most of the time, my sister was sleeping and, first days he warned her. After that, he ignored her behavior. After the class, my father used to drop him to the bus halt as his eyesight was weak. It was difficult for him to go to the bus halt alone. When my father was not at home, I went to the bus halt with him and, it was a pleasure for him. He said that I was one of the best students, and he said it several times with my parents as well. As I brought a torch to drop him, my sister put a nickname called 'Pandama'.

So, when we were in the Advanced Level class, I went to a small group class with a few friends. In this class, we did the maths questions of past papers. Our teacher was a young boy who was elder than about two years. He was district first in the advanced level exam. He was a shy and innocent guy

Once I said that it is shy for me to go to that class, one of my friends said that 'you don't worry at all. My friend's mother gave a tea for him, and my friend had to ask to drink. Otherwise, he did not. As all of us were girls, it was not a comfortable class environment for him. Sometimes, he put the duster in his trouser pocket and, wiped the board using his handkerchief. We did not laugh much in this class as it made an uncomfortable environment. Sometimes, we managed our laughter hardly.

Though he was a bright guy, we idiots also wanted to check his knowledge, even though he was a genius for maths. Those days there was a book for pure maths. There were many difficult maths questions we could not even think. So, always that book kept on our bookshelf. It was written by a professor called 'S. L. Green. He should have good mathematical knowledge to write this book. Finally, we all decided to give a maths question from this book. On the next day, I wrote down it in my book and gave it to him. He took more time than the other days to resolve the question and, we thought that our mission succeeded. He gave up all the things he planned to teach and, was thinking nearly for an hour. He bit his nails, and it was a stressful situation for him. After a while, he asked me where did I find out this question. I told him that it's given in our tuition class. He tried to resolve it many times by removing and writing on the board. Finally, he resolved it, and we noted down. Once I came home, I checked the answer in the 'Green's book, and it was correct.

However, the entire life covered up with tuition classes when we were close to the advanced level exam. One of my friends always said that one day I would die in a tuition class. Those days it was a sad story of our lives. These classes were a bit far away from our homes.  So, my mother also came with me. She talked to the tuition teacher and, introduced me. It's like the first day at school and, it was a shame for me. No one's parents came to the tuition classes and, this happened only for me. So, I asked my mother to stay saying that I'm not a kid anymore. However, she did not listen, and my father also agreed with her.

16.0 Little Tips For Reading And Writing Love Letters.

As Valentine's day is near, I would like to share some of my memories regarding love letters. As I have a lot of memories of this, I thought to bring them into two parts. So, this is the first portion of love letters. My parents are the two main characters for my first memorable story. In the past, I had a habit of digging everything and, find out something.

So, when times permitted, I searched in every nook and corner of drawers, cupboards and, showcases. There was a showcase which consists of some clothes and some old stuff. Under the clothes, there was a little-secured pack and, then I took it out. When I opened it, I saw a bundle of letters, and it was a pleasure for me to find them. It was a great pleasure for me once I got to know that those are some letters. By the time I was thirteen years old.

All those letters arranged nicely. It gave me a perspiration fragrance once I opened one letter. So, I wanted to see the contents of those letters soon. I got to know that those letters written by my parents when they were lovers after reading a few of them.

As I wanted to keep this as a secret, that place was not good to read them peacefully. So, I took all the letters and put them in my room. The biggest problem I had was my sister as she can spoil this within a few minutes if she found these letters. Because it's difficult to conceal something from her. In those days, her main task was to find and, tell my mistakes to my mother. Because she did not prefer to hear appreciations given by my parents to me. She tried to crash it and, hunt down for every possible mistake. She was very jealous to see my good image. So anyway, this was a nasty thing to hide from her.

So, I had to wait for a couple of days to find out a good time to read even though I hid these letters in a secured place. I kept on thinking that how to find out a suitable time for this thing. We two studied in one room and, used to sleep with my mother. So, I did not have a chance to read these quick enough. When I was thinking and thinking I got a smart idea.

That is to keep these letters one by one in a big book that can be covered a half-sheet. Then I thought that I can read them by showing that I was reading that book. And, then my next step was to find a book which can keep these letters without showing them outside. That was my requirement and, I spent another couple of days to find out a suitable book.

Finally, I found a good book. That was the character of honorable 'Anagarika Dharmapala. It was a great book given by my grandfather when he was teaching 'English' language for me. It was written down from his birth to death. It had a dark-colored blended rosy back cover and, the gold-hued text style was there saying 'Honorable Anagarika Dharmapala. I already read this book on those days, even though I have taken this for my work. Later on, I gave that book to our temple's library.

He was a heroic character in our country 'Sri Lanka and, he served our nation well. In that era, Buddha Gaya in India has not belonged to Buddhists. They did not get the opportunity to worship. Buddha Gaya is the place where our Lord Buddha enlightened. So, 'Anagarika Dhramapalathuma put an enormous effort and, he could take Buddha Gaya back to Buddhists. Buddhists could worship that place with sacred thoughts again. I think Indians respected him more than our Sri Lankans and, you can identify that difference once you visit India.

His service for publishing Buddhism in the world also appreciable and, he sacrificed his life for Buddhism because of these situations. However, he had to do these things amid huge obstacles, even though he worked for a common goal of Sri Lankans. It is said that he did not get much support whatever he ought to have received for a common purpose. But he was a devotee to heal the hearts of many people. When he was publishing the Dhamma in other countries, there was another great person who supported him a lot and, he was 'Sir Henry Olket.

So, when I looked at these letters, my hands trembled. After that, I kept one letter inside the book to read. That was a letter written by my mother and, it was awesome. When I saw the letters that she had written, I felt a sigh of relief. It's clean so clear. It was about her stuff like the days she went to work, her friends' stories and, the days she came back home. So, without any distraction, I was able to read a lot of letters written by my parents without taking the attention of my sister. To read these letters peacefully, I went to a corner of the room by facing the door. It helped me to take suitable action when somebody was entering the room.

Therefore, I had enough time to hide my book and, read another one according to the situation. My mother nicely arranged the letters by the date she sent and, received. Therefore, her written one and, father's response was there in order. So, it was easy for their eldest daughter to read. However, both did not communicate any romantic stuff. I think they assumed this situation earlier.

The main problem I had was about my father's handwriting and, it was not clear to read. Therefore, I had to put additional effort to understand his wordings and, to see anyone coming into the room. I could read two to three letters written by my mother when trying to read one letter written by my father. I thought that how did my mother read this stuff and, that was the idea I had when I was reading my father's letters. His textual style was italic and aligned to the left-hand side. I had many letters to read and, I finished more than half of it.

So, I followed my safety mechanisms and, read that book for a couple of days. One day my sister was suspicious about this reading as she noticed that I was reading the same book for a couple of days. So, she asked that 'Do you have interesting stuff to read? I do not think so'. I blamed her and, said that she does not know the importance of anything. As her behavior was a bit suspicious, I also worked more carefully.

But one day she suddenly entered the room and, hauled the book without keeping time for me to take any action. Then a few letters and books tumbled down when I was trying to get them back, and she could pick one letter. When she grabbed that, I did not have anything to do with it. So, she wanted to read all the others. She was three years younger than me. So, I tried to convince her less maturity. She did not look back even though I tried to stop her. After that, I knew the next results once she went away with an angry mood.

After that, I was ashamed when my mother returned to the room. Then she blamed me and, asked for all the letters. As soon as it was taken, she burned it all over.

It gave me sad and guilty feelings as those were suddenly vanished because of me. Then I said that 'I read just one letter. Do not burn all'. But she was so silent and, did not listen to me. Apart from the letters, there was some stuff like greeting cards and, pictures. There was one picture of a pretty girl who holds a Rose flower. She looks like my mother, and my father has taken from a magazine.

Still, I can remember that tragic minute where all these nice things became ash within a few minutes. I had the worst feeling about this loss than the terrible feeling I had about the rest of the letters that I could not read. I think my mother informed my father about this. So, it was very guilty to look at his face. I did not talk too much with my father for several days. But my father behaved as usual.
